Industrial design (ID) is the professional service of creating and developing concepts and specifications that optimize the function, value and appearance of products and systems for the mutual benefit of both user and manufacturer.
What is 3D Printing?
3D printing (or additive manufacturing, AM) is any of various processes used to make a three-dimensional object. In 3D printing, additive processes are used, in which successive layers of material are laid down under computer control.
Who owns the design produced by LUMA-iD?
After receiving payment in full from the invoiced amount, the design property is owned by the client.Which file types do you accept?
Currently we can accept the following 2D file types: .dxf/ .dwg/ .pdf/ .jpeg/ and these 3D file types: .prt/ .sldprt / .x_t/ .iges/ .stp
What CAD software do you use?
We have two Dassault Systèmes Solidworks 2013 license seats along with one 2017 Solidworks license, a Luxion Keyshot 5.1 Pro licence seat, three Autodesk Fusion 360 Ultimate licence seats and three Product Design Suite Ultimate licence seats which include 3DS Max, AutoCAD, Inventor and Camnetics gear design software.
Do you charge VAT?
Yes at the standard 20% rate for all UK customers and EU costumers without a valid VAT number. EU customers with a valid VAT number are exempt from this rate and will not be charged VAT. Our VAT number is 187235387.
Is 3D Printing suitable for low volume production?
3D printing is a tool that is ideal for low volume production. You can either print your parts and use them as is, or create a silicone mould from your 3D print to create copies out of resins and other materials. Objet have a great PDF tutorial about silicone moulding of low volume productions.
Do you have an in-house 3D Printer?
Yes! We now have our very own, in-house FDM printer that aids in the prototyping stage of the design process and we work closely with 3DPRINTUK to provide industry standard SLS EOS printed parts. Check out our 3D Printer here.
Do I need to book an appointment for an office visit?

What is Luma3dprint?
Luma3dprint is the website and design service we started in October 2012 when we launched. We still have kept this site up but our focus is now on LUMA-iD.com.
What are the nearest tube stations to the LUMA London office?
Surrey Quays or South Bermondsey are approximately 2km from the office. We suggest catching a taxi and ask for Unit 13, Elizabeth Industrial Estate, South Bermondsey (or a walk if the weather is nice!).
Can I send LUMA a design I would like to patent?
Not to start with. If you have an idea you would like to protect with a patent do not let it out into the public domain, that includes us. First we must sign an NDA which protects your idea.
What payment methods do you accept?
All our invoices have our bank account details allowing every client to bank transfer the payment. We also have a Paypal option on all invoices, which is a direct link to the Paypal login page if clients prefer a more secure method.
Do you provide a graphic design service?
Yes, if you need any graphic design work, from logos and branding to packaging design and visual merchandising we also have specialist graphic designers, as well as product designers.
